Clement scattered the argument on purpose, so that a lazy reader would give up before a serious one did. It works, and it also means the book will not stand still when you need it to.

Cited for this book
Clement calls them Stromateis — patchwork, the mixed rugs sold in a market — and says he wrote them disordered on purpose, so that what is in them would have to be dug for. The claim they carry is the one that made him useful to every Christian scholar since: philosophy was to the Greeks what the Law was to the Hebrews, a real teacher who really taught, and whose whole job was to hand its pupils on. He is quoting Paul on the Law when he says it.
