Eusebius is the reason there is a first three centuries to argue about. He is also a partisan — he read Constantine as the answer to the church’s prayers and wrote him that way, he was on the wrong side at Nicaea before he signed, and his judgement of people is not reliable. Both things are true, and the second does not undo the first: he copied his documents in whole instead of summarising them, so a reader can check him against himself.
