Why these numbers

The game's own explanation, as a reader sees it in the backpack.

Defend 40

My Testimony cites no Scripture, no history, no test — there is nothing beneath the feelings to hold ground with. Sincerity is not a footnote, so its Defend is weak.

Popularity 62

Personal testimony is instantly engaging — easy to recall, quick to take the floor.

Moves learned

By levelling up. A book that develops keeps what it knew and learns the rest on its new schedule.

Read it: Nothing Under the Line

The passages the Scriptorium holds on screen, word for word from a public-domain translation. Written in —.

You open it. The handwriting is quick and certain, and the first page is about a night your rival will never forget. It is vivid. It is warm. You believe every word of it.

You turn the page looking for where it comes from. A verse, a date, a name, a book it was read in. The margin is clean. You check the foot of the page. Nothing there either.

You keep going. Twelve pages, and the feeling never once has to answer to anything outside itself. It does not argue. It reports — and it reports only the reporter.

Notes

Every other book you carry can be checked. You can go and find the manuscript, or the chapter, or the man who wrote it down. This one ends where the writer’s memory ends.

That is not the same as false. Your rival is not lying, and what happened to them probably happened. It is that nothing here can be tested — and a thing that cannot be tested cannot be leaned on when someone pushes.

Read the blank space under these pages. On every other book in your bag, that is where the citation goes.
